Why hire a photographer?

In a world where everyone carries a virtual production studio in their back pocket almost as an afterthought, people rightfully ask why anyone would hire a dedicated photographer for anything less than the most elaborate or important events. Modern mobile platforms like Apple and Samsung can take really good pictures without much effort or intention . Just point and shoot, and the AI powered image engine does the rest. But the truth is while anyone can take good pictures; good pictures alone do not make great photographs.

A great photograph goes beyond the surface of the image, beyond the aesthetics of lines and lights and shapes. A great photograph isn't great because it's the best looking. A great photograph is great because something in it reaches out and connects with you. That elusive quality is often found in the moments between setups and poses when we stop being aware of the camera and simply exist. A dedicated photographer has the tools and the experience to be present and ready so those moments don't slip by unnoticed.

Anyone can take a picture. A photographer is there to capture the moments you don't yet know you'd need.

Individual Portrait

By definition a portrait is an image focusing on a specific subject often presented in isolation. In practice, that's not how a portrait is created. A portrait is a dialog between artist and subject. It's a negotiation to create a space or a mood for a moment to occur in the slope of a should, the line of a neck, the hint of a smirk or a twinkle in the eye. These are the differences between a picture of a person and a portrait of you.

Individual Portrait sessions focus on communicating a mood and a feeling, and can include props or locations along with multiple costume changes. They can be images of you or the you that you want to see either for display or for your own private collection.

Family/ Small Group Portrait

Whether family or friends, co-workers or life partners, there are times when we want to be captured at our best as a reminder of those relationships and who we were at that moment in time both as ourselves and to each other. We can work together to try and capture the essence of what is shared between you isolated from the noise of the world around.

Family and small group sessions try to capture the interconnectedness between very closely knit groups. If you are sincere and honest with yourselves and each other the bond between parents and children or just between good friends will always shine through.

Small Gathering

Bring together a group of people, add a little whiskey, a little wine, throw in some god food and good music and you have a cauldron of memories waiting to be stirred. Whether a family event or a gathering of friends, any occasion can be a delicious stew of moments you'll want to remember

Small Gathering sessions mean to convey the intimacy of a small group interaction. The closeness of a small group is more interactive, with some moments shared by all and others just between two or three individuals..

Larger Gathering

Headshots/ Business

Performance

You are both your brand and your best advertising, making headshots one of your most powerful tools when it comes to representing yourself or your business. More than just a strong portrait, a headshot should convey a relaxed confidence and a sense that you will be a trustworthy ally to your customers and partners.

Headshot/ Business sessions focus on delivering finely detailed images with perfectly crafted lighting and tightly edited post production. This can result in fewer but far higher quality images that allow you to put your best face forward. And who knows? Maybe there's a little magic in there anyway.

What large gatherings often lose in intimacy they gain in energy. A Large Gathering session looks to capture the energy of all that energy careening and colliding amongst people. Within this space we can experience the spark of a new personal of professional relationship or the joy of one rekindled. We can capture the moment the point of a presentation lands or the humanity on display when the presentation slips and everyone in the room is simply sharing in the randomness of life.

Large Group sessions try to offer a cumulative snapshot of your gathering to serve as a memory for those who were there and an invitation for future events.

Performance photography means to showcase your, your band or your troupe in their natural element; engaging with an audience. The trick is to get as close to the action as possible without interrupting the communication between performer and audience while delivering a sense of the energy passing between the two. These images can be used for promotion, as collectibles or as keepsakes.

Performance sessions aim to deliver images that present the subject both intimately and dynamically to relay a sense of the performance experience
